AGUI calls for improved endometriosis diagnosis and care

During the first National Day of University Gynecology, Luigi Nappi, president of the Italian Association of University Gynecologists (AGUI), emphasized the need to stop normalizing the pain associated with endometriosis.

Endometriosis is a chronic condition affecting more than 10% of women of childbearing age. Currently, the average time to reach a diagnosis is approximately eight years. Nappi highlighted that pelvic pain affecting daily activities, work, or studies should be treated as a significant warning sign rather than an inevitable condition.

To reduce the impact of the disease and preserve fertility, AGUI advocates for increased awareness among both patients and healthcare providers, as well as the creation of more consistent diagnostic and treatment pathways across Italy.
