Aguia Resources to reassess Lucena phosphate project in Brazil

Aguia Resources is planning to reassess its Lucena Phosphate Project in Paraíba, Brazil. The project holds a JORC-inferred mineral resource of 55 million tonnes at 6.42% phosphorus pentoxide, alongside a 41.4 million tonne limestone resource.

The company is seeking licence extensions from the National Mining Agency (ANM) to progress toward a feasibility phase. Aguia currently holds 16 licences in the region, with 12 awaiting approval to move into feasibility.

This move follows the Brazilian Federal Senate's approval of the Fertiliser Industry Development Program (Profert). This initiative aims to reduce Brazil's heavy reliance on imported fertilisers, which currently account for over 80% of its requirements. Profert includes a R$10 billion budget and introduces local-content requirements that will scale from 2% to 10% by 2037.
