Aguidavi do Jêje brings ancestral musical traditions to Brazilian tour

The musical spectacle ‘Encontro Ancestral’, led by Aguidavi do Jêje, is touring Brazil to showcase musical traditions preserved for over three centuries at the Terreiro do Bogum in Salvador. The performance features 14 ogãs, more than 18 instruments, and 15 atabaques handcrafted by Luizinho do Jêje.

The tour includes stops in four cities: São Paulo on September 20 at Casa Natura Musical; Rio de Janeiro on September 24 at Circo Voador; Porto Alegre on September 27 at Bar Opinião; and a final performance in Salvador on November 13 at Concha Acústica.

Renowned artist Chico César will participate in several cities, performing six songs alongside the group. César noted that while Aguidavi do Jêje’s music has religious origins and his own is secular, both meet through African ancestry and tradition, highlighting the deep connection between Brazilian music and the musical matrices of the terreiros.
