Agustín Aristarán’s ‘Chanta’ tops Buenos Aires box office

Agustín ‘Rada’ Aristarán’s solo play, ‘Chanta’, has become the highest-grossing production in Buenos Aires’ Corrientes Avenue theater district. The production, currently in its second season at the Teatro Astral through November 27, outperformed other major shows including those by Guillermo Francella and Suar in recent weekly box office rankings.

Written by Mariano Cohn, Gastón Duprat, and Juan José Becerra, and directed by Marcelo Caballero, the black comedy follows the character Julio Ballesteros. The narrative explores the protagonist's reflections on life, hypocrisy, and social contradictions following his death. The play has received critical recognition, including the 2026 Estrella de Mar Award for Best Solo Show and the 2026 ACE Award for Best Male Performance in a Solo Show.
