Agustín Tapia and Arturo Coello eliminated in Madrid Premier Padel quarter-finals

In a major upset at the Movistar Arena, the world number one padel duo Agustín Tapia and Arturo Coello were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Premier Padel tournament in Madrid. The pair, often referred to as the ‘Golden Boys’, lost in straight sets to Mike Yanguas and Coki Nieto.

This defeat marks the first time since May 2025 that Tapia and Coello have failed to reach a semi-final. Prior to this match, the duo had won six of their last seven tournaments. Following the loss, Tapia expressed his sentiments on social media, stating, “It was beautiful while it lasted,” while also showing sportsmanship by applauding his opponents.

The victory for Yanguas and Nieto is significant as they had previously struggled in head-to-head matchups against the top-ranked pair. The results come at a critical time in the season as players prepare for the Paris Major, where 2,000 points are at stake for the champion.
