AH-64E Apache helicopter undergoes combat testing in India and grounding in US

The AH-64E Apache attack helicopter is currently involved in two distinct operational developments in India and the United States.

In India, the Army Aviation Corps’ “Valiant Wings” squadron successfully conducted drills to validate the air-to-air combat and anti-drone capabilities of its Apache fleet. The exercises, performed in desert terrain along the Western border, utilized the helicopter’s 30mm M230 chain gun to intercept a Banshee Jet 40+ Uncrewed Aerial Vehicle (UAV). This testing aims to enhance the military's ability to neutralize high-speed loitering munitions and modern drone threats.

Conversely, the United States Army has issued an “immediate, temporary pause in flight operations” for a significant portion of its AH-64E fleet. Approximately 400 helicopters equipped with the Improved Drive System transmission have been grounded due to renewed safety concerns. This marks the second such stand-down in three months and follows at least four “Class-A” mishaps involving the aircraft within the past year. Officials stated the pause will continue while technical assessments and corrective actions are performed, a process that could last several months.
