Ahad Shokohian's death sentence case returned for further investigation
Ahad Shokohian, a prisoner sentenced to death following the nationwide protests of December 2022, has had his case returned to the Varamin prosecutor's office. Although his death sentence was previously upheld during the appeal stage, the Supreme Court ordered a completion of investigations due to procedural flaws and deficiencies in the initial inquiry.
Shokohian, currently held in Qazvin Prison, was sentenced by the Tehran Revolutionary Court Branch 26 to three death sentences on charges including ‘acting against national security’, ‘conspiracy against national security’, ‘destruction of public property’, and ‘participation in the killing of two security forces’. The court cited his involvement in protests in Pakdasht and the burning of a mosque as part of the charges. The current legal movement does not change the existing sentence but requires the investigation to be finalized before the case is resubmitted to the Supreme Court.
