Ahievren women farmers sell regional products at Malkara market
In the Ahievren neighborhood of Malkara, Tekirdağ, women farmers are driving local production by selling their harvests at a regional market organized by the village cooperative. For approximately five to six years, these producers have been bringing a variety of crops to consumers, including tomatoes, peppers, melons, watermelons, zucchini, okra, onions, garlic, mürdümük, local lentils, and chickpeas.
Beyond fresh produce, the women also offer processed regional goods such as tomato paste and noodles. Producer Sabriye Ayvaz noted that the work involves a rigorous schedule, starting with early morning harvests in the fields followed by setting up at the market and continuing production at home. The women utilize a collective work model to support their family budgets and contribute to the local economy.
