Ahilik Week celebrations begin across Turkey

The 39th Ahilik Week is being celebrated across various Turkish provinces, highlighting the historical Ahilik tradition which emphasizes professional ethics, honesty, and solidarity among tradesmen.

In Kırşehir, considered the capital of Ahilik, a week of events will take place from September 14 to 20. The program includes a parade, traditional breakfasts, and official ceremonies. Trade Minister Ömer Bolat is expected to attend, where he will discuss support for tradesmen and the “Ahi Tradesman Certificate” application. Local officials have called on citizens to decorate shops with flags and encouraged tradesmen to offer discounts.

In Isparta, the Isparta Chamber of Tradesmen and Craftsmen (IESOB) has organized activities including visits to nursing homes and traditional ceremonies like the “Şed Kuşanma” (girding of the belt).

In Malatya, the local Chamber of Tradesmen and Craftsmen (MESOB) has opted for a modest observance. President Şevket Keskin noted that due to the ongoing economic struggles and physical destruction caused by the February 6 earthquakes, grand celebrations would be inappropriate while local businesses are still operating from containers.
