Ahlat cultural and nature event promotes Van Lake Basin heritage
The Van Lake Activists Association and the Tatvan Running Club organized a large-scale nature and culture event in the Ahlat district of Bitlis. Approximately 100 participants explored the historical and natural landmarks of the region, including a full trek through the Madavans Valley.
The excursion included visits to historical settlement areas, the Harabe Şehir region, and rock-cut caves. Participants also visited the Ahlat Seljuk Square Cemetery, a significant historical heritage site in Anatolia.
Dr. Erdoğan Özel, President of the Van Lake Activists Association, emphasized that the Van Lake Basin is a unified entity comprising nature, history, and culture. The initiative aimed to encourage young people to recognize and protect their local geographical and historical heritage.
