Ahmad Hardy Missouri Tigers gunshot wound return-to-play SEC

Missouri Tigers running back Ahmad Hardy, who led the SEC in rushing last season, has been medically cleared to begin a return‑to‑play protocol after being shot in the leg at a concert in Mississippi in May. Coach Eli Drinkwitz announced at SEC Media Days that the bullet struck a bone but the wound has fully healed, and the protocol is expected to last five to eight weeks.

Hardy, a transfer from Louisiana‑Monroe who posted 1,649 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns last year, is slated to return for the season opener against Arkansas‑Pine Bluff on Sept. 3 and will face rival Kansas on Sept. 11. The coach expressed optimism that Hardy could emerge even stronger after his rehabilitation.

A 20‑year‑old suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated assault in connection with the May shooting.
