Ahmad Luthfi urges Central Java students to combat poverty
During the 11th National Santri Day ceremony in Tegal, Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi called upon the region's 555,000 santri (Islamic students) to play a larger role in regional development. He emphasized that the spirit of the 'Resolusi Jihad' initiated by KH Hasyim Asy’ari should be modernized to focus on entrepreneurship and poverty alleviation.
Luthfi noted that Central Java's poverty rate stands at 9.21 percent, affecting approximately 3.6 million people. To address this, the provincial government is implementing the 'Pesantren Obah' program, led by Vice Governor Taj Yasin Maimoen. The initiative includes educational scholarships, assistance for Islamic boarding schools, business development for students, and incentives for religious teachers.
To date, the provincial government has provided scholarships to 488 students, including 58 individuals selected to pursue education abroad in countries such as Yemen and Egypt.
