Ahmadu Bello Stadium reconstruction targeted for November 2026 completion
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has announced that the reconstruction of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium (ABS) is scheduled for completion by November 2026. The project aims to transform the venue into a modern, FIFA-standard sporting complex.
The upgraded stadium will feature a 33,000-capacity main bowl, more than doubling its original 16,000 capacity. It will also include a hybrid turf, which is expected to be the first of its kind in Nigeria, alongside a media centre, athletes’ hostel, and ticketing points. While training pitches are already complete, work continues on the main bowl and other facilities.
Governor Sani stated that the reconstruction is intended to restore Kaduna’s status as a major sports hub, attract international competitions, and stimulate economic activity. Additionally, the administration is fulfilling a long-standing promise to members of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic gold-winning Super Eagles by allocating land to the players and naming streets in their honor.
