Ahmed al Ahmed charged with assault on father after Bondi shooting

Ahmed al Ahmed, a 44‑year‑old who was praised as a hero for intervening in the December 2022 mass shooting at a Hanukkah event on Bondi Beach in Sydney—where 15 people were killed and dozens injured—has been charged with assault, intimidation and stalking after allegedly attacking his own father in March 2024. The prime minister Anthony Albanese had visited him in hospital and described him as “the best example of what our country stands for,” and a public fundraiser raised more than AU$2.5 million in his support. Ahmed denies the allegations, calling them false, and is scheduled to appear before the Local Court in Bankstown on 29 June.
