Ahmed Ramzy: Remembering the legacy of the Egyptian cinema star

September 28 marks the anniversary of the death of Egyptian actor Ahmed Ramzy, who passed away in 2012 at the age of 82. Known for his charming and energetic roles, Ramzy was a prominent figure in Egyptian cinema, appearing in nearly 100 films including ‘La Totfi al-Shams’ and ‘Ibn Hamidou’.

Ramzy maintained a lifelong friendship with actor Omar Sharif that spanned approximately 60 years. Their bond began during their time at Victoria College and led to numerous cinematic collaborations such as ‘Ayamna al-Hilwa’ and ‘Sira’ fi al-Mina’. Sharif is credited with encouraging Ramzy’s acting career and supported him throughout his life, even providing financial assistance during difficult periods.

Regarding his personal life, Ramzy once detailed a brief marriage to actress Najwa Fouad that lasted only 21 days following their marriage contract. He stated the marriage was a response to pressure from a journalist intended to protect Fouad’s reputation following a public dispute.
