Ahmed Said bin Brik suspends membership in Hadhramaut's higher coordination council preparatory committee

Ahmed Said bin Brik, former governor of Hadhramaut and ex‑deputy head of the dissolved Southern Transitional Council, announced he is suspending his membership in the preparatory committee for the Higher Coordination Council of Hadhramaut. In a written statement he cited "fundamental dysfunctions" and a "clear deviation from the council's founding goals," accusing the committee of partisan dominance, the existence of a shadow body favouring Governor Salim al‑Khanbashi, and a lack of transparent, population‑based representation.

Bin Brik said the decision reflects his responsibility to the people of Hadhramaut and his earlier concessions made to advance South‑South dialogue, which he says were not reciprocated. He urged that any coordination framework be built on transparency, genuine partnership and adherence to the authority of the local community, rejecting attempts to use the council to influence oil‑export decisions or other national policies.
