Ahmed Sékou Traoré faces trial for alleged 32 billion GNF embezzlement

Ahmed Sékou Traoré, the former president of the special delegation for the Ratoma commune, appeared before the Court for the Repression of Economic and Financial Crimes (CRIEF) on November 2, 2026. He is standing trial alongside former communal receiver Mohamed Camara for the alleged embezzlement of 32 billion Guinean francs (GNF), along with charges of corruption, forgery, illicit enrichment, and money laundering.

During the proceedings, Traoré denied all charges. He testified that he does not hold any bank accounts and that his monthly income ranged between 5 and 10 million GNF. He stated his only significant asset is a single plot of land in Yattaya, purchased in 2017 for 75 million GNF. Traoré also noted that he previously served as the country director for the NGO Mérite International for Youth.

Regarding municipal finances, Traoré defended his management of tax revenues and funds from the National Agency for the Financing of Local Authorities (ANAFIC). He claimed that 14.625 billion GNF from ANAFIC was used for community infrastructure projects, including the construction of a school in Hamdallaye 2, a library in Nassouroulaye, and various health and sanitation renovations. The court has granted the defense until November 16 to analyze financial reports.
