Ahmedabad authorities clear illegal encroachments and launch citywide vehicle checks
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) carried out a 15‑day operation that removed 708 handcarts and stalls, dismantled 313 illegal sheds, 1,066 tirpals, 1,987 advertisement boards and about 5,200 other items from public roads and highways. The drive also locked 1,159 vehicles, towed 10, and imposed administrative fines totaling ₹8.62 million.
In a parallel enforcement effort, Gujarat police conducted a night‑long checking operation that inspected 4,712 vehicles across 59 locations. Officers seized illegal alcohol, including 27 bottles of foreign liquor worth ₹6,511 and 19 liters of local spirit worth ₹3,800, as well as 359 bottles of prohibited “kaf syrup” and 115 g of cannabis. Over 60 cases were filed for driving without proper documents, intoxication, and violations of the Gujarat Police Act and narcotics laws.
