Ahmedabad Civil Hospital treats two critical newborns to recovery
Two newborns with life-threatening complications have recovered following intensive treatment at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital in Gujarat.
The first infant, born prematurely at 26 weeks and weighing only 1 kg, required immediate admission to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) due to severe breathing difficulties caused by immature lungs. After 84 days of intensive care, including intravenous nutrition and respiratory support, the baby's weight increased to 1.8 kg and was discharged in stable condition after receiving Nirsevimab for RSV protection.
The second newborn, delivered at 39 weeks, faced complications including a multidrug-resistant bacterial infection, a brain blood clot, and seizures. This infant required various forms of respiratory assistance, including eight days on a ventilator, 10 days of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), and six days of High-Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) support. The baby eventually recovered and began breathing without supplemental oxygen.
