Ahmedabad corporation halts sale of 1,700 kg of ghee after safety test
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) suspended the sale of roughly 1,770 kg of ghee worth about Rs 11.43 lakh after a laboratory test declared a sample substandard. The sample of Pure Cow Desi Ghee (Agni) was collected on July 20 from trader Janak Modi’s stall at Kalupur Ghee Bazaar and sent to the Public Health Laboratory, which found it below standards.
Following the result, AMC health officials inspected the distribution chain and traced the product to Rishabh Ghee Bhandar in Sabarmati, owned by Ashokkumar Bagarecha. The corporation seized 1,094 kg of Agmark Pure Desi Ghee (Agni) valued at Rs 7,00,835 and 674 kg of Pure Cow Desi Ghee (Agni) valued at Rs 4,42,443. Because the ghee is manufactured outside Gujarat, the state food‑safety officer and the Gandhinagar Food and Drugs Department were notified. AMC announced that it will intensify inspections of all food‑business establishments for hygiene and licensing compliance, with strict action under the Food Safety and Standards Act and the GPMC Act.
