Ahmedabad heavy rainfall triggers flooding and opens Vasna Barrage gates

Heavy rainfall has caused significant disruption in Ahmedabad, leading to urban flooding and the opening of 14 gates at the Vasna Barrage to release 17,000 cusecs of water. In some areas, nearly 4 inches of rain were recorded within a short period, with Sarkhej receiving over 4 inches and Vasna seeing over 3 inches.

The intense downpour resulted in waterlogging across several neighborhoods, including Vastrapur, Mansi, Pakwan, and Navrangpura, causing traffic congestion and affecting commuters, students, and workers. Five underpasses in the city have been closed due to rising water levels.

In response to the weather conditions, the District Education Officer has issued instructions regarding school closures. While the Meteorological Department had previously issued forecasts, discrepancies between the predicted light-to-moderate rain and the actual heavy downpour have been noted by residents.
