Ahmedabad: Nine-year-old girl missing after falling into open drain

A nine-year-old girl fell into a 20-foot-deep open drain on Narol-Pirana Road in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Saturday. The incident occurred while the girl was walking a short distance behind her mother, who had just disembarked from a rickshaw.

A multi-agency rescue operation involving the police and fire brigade has been underway for several hours. Search teams have inspected the immediate area and the local pumping station but have not yet located the child.

Maninagar Fire Station Officer Pravin Singh Solanki stated that Border Security Force (BSF) personnel will be deployed into the drain to assess water depth and current conditions. If conditions permit, rescuers plan to open sewer manhole covers to inspect the route leading to the pumping station.
