Ahmedabad Police bust international cybercrime network linked to China and Pakistan
Ahmedabad police have dismantled an international cybercrime network linked to the ‘Boss Scam,’ an operation that provided technical infrastructure to facilitate fraud in Pakistan and China. The investigation, which began following a ₹1.5 crore impersonation scam, revealed a massive ecosystem involving the supply of SIM cards and One-Time Passwords (OTPs) to overseas criminals.
Authorities have arrested two individuals, Imran Ali Pyaada and Injamul Mujibar Molla, in West Bengal. During raids, police recovered devices capable of operating multiple SIM cards simultaneously and discovered that the group had procured approximately 4,500 SIM cards. The network reportedly provided around 21,000 OTPs to facilitate illegal money transfers.
The scale of the operation is significant, with 251 complaints registered across 26 Indian states. Investigators identified links to a call center in Islamabad, Pakistan, and noted the use of malware developed in China. The cybercrime infrastructure was also reportedly linked to Hong Kong.
In response to the growing threat of cybercrime, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi highlighted the need for technological modernization, announcing a ₹51 lakh challenge to integrate the state’s CCTV network with AI-based automated software systems.
