Ahmedabad Police Seize 358 Bottles of Illegal Cough Syrup
The Ahmedabad Rural Police seized 358 bottles of suspected intoxicating cough syrup worth roughly ₹70,884 from a pick‑up truck in the Aslali area of Gujarat on June 28. The operation, conducted after specific intelligence, also resulted in the impoundment of a vehicle (valued at about ₹3 lakh) and the seizure of a mobile phone worth ₹5,000.
The driver, identified as 36‑year‑old Khoda alias Rohit Thakor of Bavla taluka, was arrested. Two additional individuals, Jignesh Thakor and Ravi Pagi, also of Bavla, were named as wanted in connection with the case. A case has been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Police say the seizure is part of a broader effort to curb the illegal distribution of codeine‑based cough syrups, which are being misused as intoxicants, especially among young people. Earlier raids in the district had seized 273 bottles, and coordinated operations in Changodar and Sanand have also targeted similar contraband.
