Ahmedabad police seize 358 bottles of illegal cough syrup, arrest driver

Ahmedabad rural police conducted a drug‑free operation in the Aslali area, stopping a pickup vehicle and seizing 358 bottles of suspicious cough syrup containing codeine. The raid led to the arrest of 36‑year‑old Khodar, also known as Rohit Thakur, a driver from Bawla taluka. Two additional residents, Jignesh Thakor and Ravi Pagi, were also named as wanted persons.

Authorities confiscated a mobile phone worth ₹5,000 and a vehicle valued at roughly ₹3 lakh, bringing the total seized assets to about ₹3.75 lakh. The case was filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Police noted a rise in the recreational misuse of codeine‑containing cough syrup among youth and mentioned a prior seizure of 273 bottles earlier this year.

Investigations continue to trace the source of the syrup and its distribution network.
