Ahmedabad Police seize 387 bottles of illegal cough syrup

Ahmedabad Police arrested a 32-year-old man in the Vasna area after seizing 387 bottles of allegedly illegal cough syrup. The seizure, valued at approximately 1.51 lakh rupees, occurred on August 22 during the city’s ‘No Drugs in the City’ campaign.

The suspect, identified as Shahnawaz (also known as Shanu or Mohammad Ilyas Ansari), was reportedly attempting to sell the syrup while transporting it in an auto-rickshaw near Guptanagar. The confiscated items included bottles containing triprolidine hydrochloride and codeine phosphate, a mobile phone, and the auto-rickshaw used in the operation.

A case has been registered at the Vasna police station under sections 8(C) and 21(C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This incident follows a larger seizure earlier this month by the Ahmedabad Special Operations Group, which intercepted 5,050 bottles of codeine phosphate-based syrup in a parcel at the city’s General Post Office.
