Ahmedabad Science City welcomes new penguins and launches Space Festival

Ahmedabad’s Science City has introduced two new African penguin chicks, named ‘Shaurya’ and ‘Veer’, to its Aquatic Gallery. The births bring the total number of penguins at the facility to 10.

The announcement coincided with the launch of the three-day Space Festival-2026, held in anticipation of National Space Day on August 23. The festival includes a space science exhibition, planetarium shows, workshops, and scientific lectures.

During the inauguration, Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia highlighted Gujarat’s growing role in the space-technology sector. He noted that the headquarters of the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) is located in Ahmedabad and mentioned ongoing work to establish a new launch station near Kodinar in Saurashtra.
