Ahmedabad security guard arrested for alleged rape of student

A security guard, identified as Dharam Singh, was arrested in Ahmedabad for the alleged rape of an interior designing student on the terrace of a residential building in the Anandnagar area. The incident occurred on a Saturday night when the victim went to the terrace for a walk. Singh, a native of Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, had reportedly joined the security agency only four days prior to the assault.

Police formed ten teams, including the Local Crime Branch and Crime Branch, to track the suspect using CCTV footage. Singh was apprehended on Sunday morning in the Hebatpur area. Following his arrest, a scuffle occurred during a recovery operation intended to retrieve a mobile phone allegedly stolen from the victim. During the struggle, Singh reportedly attempted to snatch an inspector's service pistol, resulting in a shot that injured a police constable. Police subsequently fired another round, hitting the suspect in the leg.

Both the suspect and the injured constable were taken to Civil Hospital in Sola and are reported to be stable. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities also scrutinizing the security agency for failing to conduct proper background verification of the employee.
