Ahmedabad to host 2026 BRICS Traditional and Indigenous Sports Games

India will host the BRICS Traditional and Indigenous Sports Demonstration Games on October 12, 2026, in Ahmedabad. Organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with the Gujarat government, the event will take place at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex under India's BRICS Chairship.

Designed as a non-competitive platform, the games aim to promote cultural exchange, heritage preservation, and people-to-people cooperation. The event will focus on the demonstration, documentation, and knowledge-sharing of traditional sporting practices among delegations from BRICS member and partner countries.

Participating nations are expected to showcase various indigenous traditions. India will present Mallakhamb, Yogasana, and Kalaripayattu, while China is set to demonstrate Wushu, Lion Dance, and Health Qigong. Other scheduled demonstrations include Gorodki from Belarus and Russia, Sambo from Russia, Capoeira and Zarabatana from Brazil, and various traditional sports from Bolivia and Ethiopia.
