Ahmedabad to host 2029 IWF World Weightlifting Championships
The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Executive Board has awarded Ahmedabad, India, the hosting rights for the 2029 senior World Weightlifting Championships. The decision was announced during an executive board meeting in Ningbo, China.
This marks the first time India will host the senior World Weightlifting Championships. The 2029 event is also scheduled to serve as a qualifying competition for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which India is set to host.
In a move to consolidate its international competition calendar, the IWF also announced several other hosting decisions: Prishtina, Kosovo, will host the 2028 World Youth Championships; Caracas, Venezuela, will host the 2028 World Junior Championships; and Moscow, Russia, will host the 2030 senior World Weightlifting Championships.
