Ahmet Akın addresses EMA Forum on metropolitan governance

Ahmet Akın, President of the Marmara Municipalities Union and Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality, participated in the European Metropolitan Agency (EMA) Forum held in Istanbul on October 7-8. The summit brought together high-level political representatives, mayors, and strategic advisors from major European metropolises to discuss the future of cities.

The forum's theme, ‘Governance of the Metropolitan Future: Policies, Funds, and Climate-Related Water Risks,’ focused on two primary issues: the role of metropolitan areas in shaping European policies and financing tools, and the tangible impacts of climate change, specifically regarding water risks. Akın emphasized that metropolitan areas should be recognized as strategic actors in the design, implementation, and monitoring of policies, rather than merely entities that implement existing regulations or utilize funds.
