Ahmet Baran Yazgan faces expulsion and investigation over harassment claims
Ahmet Baran Yazgan, a Republican People's Party (CHP) Member of Parliament for Edirne, is facing a disciplinary process and a criminal investigation following an incident at a private residence. The CHP has requested Yazgan's permanent expulsion from the party.
The incident involved allegations of sexual harassment and assault made by a woman, identified as T. A., who claims Yazgan attempted to kiss her without consent. During the ensuing confrontation, Yazgan was reportedly assaulted and his mobile phone was taken. Three suspects—Nuh D., Begüm Ş., and T. A.—were detained but later released under judicial control with a ban on traveling abroad.
Yazgan has denied all allegations of sexual misconduct, describing the situation as a “kumpas” (conspiracy) and a “treacherous trap” designed to damage his reputation and distance him from the CHP. He further alleged that he may have been drugged during the incident and claimed he was physically attacked with a chair. Yazgan has stated he will petition the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly to have his parliamentary immunity lifted so he can stand trial.
