Ahmet Davutoğlu ordered to pay damages to Binali Yıldırım

A Turkish court has ordered former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu to pay 20,000 TL in non-pecuniary damages to Binali Yıldırım, who succeeded him in office.

The ruling stems from comments Davutoğlu made during a trip to Bingöl. In response to a citizen's question, Davutoğlu made allegations regarding the financial conduct of those who followed him in the premiership, stating that if he had not objected to certain political shifts, he would have remained in office and increased his wealth like his successor.

Binali Yıldırım filed a lawsuit for 150,000 TL in damages at the Ankara 23rd Civil Court of First Instance on June 9, 2022. The court reached its decision on March 29, 2023, requiring Davutoğlu to pay the 20,000 TL sum. This legal action follows a separate investigation into Davutoğlu regarding allegations of insulting the President.
