Ahmet Davutoğlu testifies in investigation over alleged insults to President Erdoğan

Former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has provided a statement to the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding an investigation into allegations of ‘insulting the President’. The investigation stems from comments Davutoğlu made during a 2021 visit to Bingöl, where he criticized subsequent ministers for enriching themselves and their relatives through state contracts.

Following his testimony, Davutoğlu maintained that his remarks were not insults but rather a form of political accountability and criticism. He stated, “I did not insult; I demanded an account. I did not demean; I criticized. I did not commit a crime; I exercised my constitutional right and political responsibility.” He expressed sadness that a former Prime Minister was summoned to court as a ‘suspect’ for expressing political views.

Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, reports indicate that Davutoğlu has invited President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to his son's wedding ceremony scheduled for this coming Saturday.
