Ahmet Çelik transforms forest debris into handcrafted art in Kastamonu
Ahmet Çelik, a 64-year-old retiree in the Abana district of Kastamonu, has returned to the woodworking profession he learned from his father. After retiring from the Abana Municipality, Çelik opened a workshop beneath his home to transform natural debris into art.
Using only manual tools such as hand saws and sandpaper, Çelik collects dried branches, roots, and wood pieces washed up by floods or the sea. He converts these materials into various decorative items, including walking sticks, lampshades, coffee tables, and figurines of animals like wolves and deer. He exhibits and sells his handcrafted works at his workshop and various festivals and fairs.
