Ahmet Gazi Mosque in Aydın marks 718 years of history

The Ahmet Gazi Mosque, located in the Eski Çine neighborhood of the Çine district in Aydın, remains a significant historical landmark after 718 years. Built in 1308 during the Menteşoğlu Orhan Bey era by Hızır Bey, the mosque was later restored and revitalized in the second half of the 14th century by Ahmet Gazi Bey.

Recognized as the oldest mosque in Aydın and one of the first major Turkish works in Western Anatolia, the structure features a 400 square meter square layout with walls 1.70 meters thick. Its architecture is highlighted by a 17-meter diameter brick dome. A notable feature is its 718-year-old wooden carved minbar, which has hosted 38,914 sermons, including 37,336 Friday sermons and 1,578 holiday sermons.
