Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu calls for peace and economic reform in Şırnak

Political leaders in Turkey are addressing the Kurdish issue and regional development during visits to Şırnak. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, Chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP), visited the İdil district and Cizre, calling for social peace and the release of political prisoners, specifically mentioning Selahattin Demirtaş. Kılıçdaroğlu emphasized that the solution to the Kurdish issue should be addressed within the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

In Cizre, Kılıçdaroğlu advocated for the district to be declared a free trade zone to leverage its strategic position as a gateway to the Middle East and to boost local employment. He also raised concerns regarding the Organized Industrial Zone (OSB), noting that nine facilities have closed due to infrastructure and natural gas shortages, promising to bring these issues to the TBMM.

Ahmet Türk, the DEM Party Co-Mayor of Mardin who was replaced by a government-appointed trustee, also commented on the political climate. He expressed concern that delays in the release of figures like Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ could foster distrust and hopelessness among the Kurdish population. Türk stated that his struggle is not merely for his own position but to remove the ‘mortgage on the will of the people’ caused by the trustee system.
