AHMSA bankruptcy: Labor credit confusion and rising death toll among former workers

The bankruptcy process of the steel company Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA) continues to impact former employees. Ismael Leija Escalante, general secretary of the Sindicato Nacional Democrático, clarified that the appearance of certain workers on labor credit lists does not mean they will receive double payments. He explained that more than 500 workers who have already received their settlements remain on the lists because they have ongoing legal claims related to the company's insolvency proceedings.

Amidst these legal complexities, the number of former employees who have died while awaiting their final settlements has risen. Following the death of Julián Neira, a former worker from the steel plant, former employees report that 87 individuals have passed away without receiving their outstanding labor dues. Hundreds of families continue to wait for the bankruptcy process to conclude and for the determination of pending payments.
