AHMSA faces legal claims from Trinity Industries and IMSS
Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA) is facing multiple legal actions as part of its ongoing bankruptcy proceedings. Trinity Industries Leasing Company has filed a lawsuit to recover 100 railway wagons currently held at AHMSA facilities in Monclova and Ciudad Frontera. The company seeks to have the equipment recognized as assets separate from AHMSA's bankruptcy estate, arguing the wagons were leased to Magnusson Coke and Mineral and do not belong to the steelmaker. Trinity is also requesting compensation for damages incurred while the units were out of its control.
Simultaneously, the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) has petitioned the court to demand payment of outstanding tax credits totaling approximately 32.8 million pesos. This debt consists of 23.1 million pesos in unpaid employer-employee contributions and over 9.2 million pesos in fines, along with surcharges. The IMSS is requesting that the bankruptcy trustee recognize and liquidate these preferential tax credits, which cover social security protections such as maternity, disability, and work risks.
