AHMSA steel plant thefts under investigation in Coahuila
The State Attorney General's Office (FGE) is investigating multiple reports of theft at the Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA) steel plant in Monclova, Coahuila. Everardo Lazo Chapa, the FGE delegate for the Centro-Desierto region, confirmed that there are currently three open complaints regarding thefts within the facilities.
One specific investigation involves the disappearance of between seven and nine electrical breakers that were previously installed and operational. The theft was discovered by company personnel during an inventory review. While former employees estimate the value of the stolen equipment could exceed one million pesos, authorities have not yet conducted a definitive economic assessment to determine the total loss.
Criminal investigation agents are currently gathering evidence and analyzing access to restricted areas to establish a timeline and identify those responsible. No arrests have been made. In response to the incidents, AHMSA has reportedly implemented security changes, including the dismissal of certain security personnel and increased surveillance at critical points within the plant.
