Ahn Cheol-soo calls for exclusion of pro-Han faction from party nominations

People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo has called for the eradication of the so-called ‘returnee activist group’ (bokdang undongkwon), a move widely interpreted as targeting the pro-Han Dong-hoon faction within the party.

During a press conference at the National Assembly, Ahn argued that individuals who serve specific interests outside the party and cause division through ‘wrecking’ activities should be excluded from eligibility for the next general election nominations. He compared this group to the ‘86 generation’ activists of the Democratic Party, suggesting they are destabilizing the party from within.

Ahn also urged the party’s central ethics committee to take decisive action against members who have left ethical stains on the party. Furthermore, he proposed that the party strengthen its organizational capabilities by recruiting experts and strategists tailored to the metropolitan area, which he identified as the key battleground for the upcoming elections.
