Ahn Cheol-soo criticizes National Pension Service fund losses

South Korean lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo has criticized the National Pension Service (NPS) regarding a significant decrease in the valuation of its holdings. Ahn noted that the stock valuation of 287 listed companies held by the NPS decreased by approximately 182 trillion won over the past three and a half months, with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix accounting for roughly 131 trillion won of that loss.

Ahn questioned the decision to delay the rebalancing of domestic stocks in January, which resulted in maintaining a higher proportion of domestic equities. He called for an investigation into whether this decision was influenced by political interests rather than sound investment principles.

Furthermore, Ahn criticized the government and ruling party for delaying the submission of meeting minutes to the National Assembly, despite legal provisions that allow for the submission of such records to standing committees. He demanded greater independence and accountability in the management of the pension fund to protect the assets of future generations.
