Ahok addresses equality and corruption ahead of planned demonstrations
Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, commonly known as Ahok, addressed issues of national equality and corruption during a National Dialogue at the Museum Hakka in Taman Mini Indonesia Indah on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
Ahok emphasized that all Indonesian citizens possess equal rights and obligations regardless of ethnicity, religion, or race. He argued that equality is essential to prevent the notion that specific groups have a greater claim to the nation.
Regarding upcoming large-scale demonstrations scheduled for August 27, 2026, Ahok stated that public frustration is not limited to specific identity groups but is instead driven by systemic issues. He noted that taxpayers across all backgrounds feel shared disappointment when justice is not upheld and when corruption and tax transparency issues arise.
