AHRESP reports operational issues with Volta recycling system

The Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Similar of Portugal (AHRESP) has reported operational difficulties and additional costs associated with the Volta deposit and refund system (SDR). According to spokesperson Ana Jacinto, there is a mismatch between the system's current functioning and the operational realities of the HORECA sector (hotels, restaurants, cafes, and bars).

While the association does not oppose the existence of the system, it emphasizes the need for a collection network that offers better scale and proximity. Key demands from the sector include increasing the density of Volta kiosks, implementing more flexible direct collection services at establishments, and ensuring faster responses to equipment breakdowns. Currently, businesses report that existing solutions do not sufficiently address the high volume of packaging they handle daily.
