AI accelerates job turnover for older workers while Croatian firms adapt

A study by the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College found that generative AI is prompting an early exit from the workforce among employees over 55 in the United States. Office‑based occupations most vulnerable to automation—such as programmers, accountants, auditors and tax specialists—saw job losses rise by more than 20 % after the introduction of tools like ChatGPT, with older programmers experiencing a 25 % increase in departures.

At Infobip in Croatia, 90 % of staff now use AI daily, according to HR vice‑president Marina Bezić. The company reports that AI is reshaping work habits rather than eliminating roles, making curiosity and openness to new tools a key hiring criterion. While some sectors see accelerated layoffs, firms that swiftly adopt AI are growing, and the emphasis is shifting toward adaptable thinking rather than specific technical expertise.
