AI Act mandates transparency for chatbots and deepfakes

The implementation of the AI Act has introduced new transparency requirements regarding artificial intelligence. As of August 2, 2026, users have a legal right to know when they are interacting with a machine rather than a human.

Under these regulations, chatbots and voice assistants must disclose their non-human nature. Additionally, AI-generated or manipulated content, including text, images, audio, video, and deepfakes, must be clearly labeled.

Non-compliance carries significant financial penalties. For practices deemed unacceptable or prohibited by the law, companies can face fines of up to 35 million euros or 7% of their total annual global turnover.
