AI adoption expands in consumer and corporate payment sectors
Consumer adoption of artificial intelligence is expanding, though revenue remains concentrated among a small group of heavy users. Global consumer-AI spending is estimated to reach $40 billion in 2026, a significant increase from $12 billion in 2025. Data indicates that while many users utilize AI, a top tier of 14% of payers accounts for 60% of total spending. This concentration presents economic challenges for AI agents that require high computing resources.
In the corporate sector, AppZen has introduced Autonomous Cards, a technology designed to integrate AI agents with existing corporate payment programs. Scheduled for general availability on October 26, the system aims to monitor transactions in real-time to detect suspicious activity, ensure policy compliance, and automate statement reconciliation. Unlike traditional workflows, these agents are intended to intervene during the transaction process rather than after posting.
Major tech firms are also advancing personal AI agents. Meta recently introduced Muse, a personal agent capable of managing emails and travel bookings, while OpenAI announced Dots for its premium and enterprise subscription tiers.
