AI adoption fuels security threats and soaring energy use

The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence across enterprises is creating new security challenges. Gartner forecasts that 80% of companies will deploy AI solutions this year, and a majority of chief information security officers report incidents: 75% have recorded AI‑related security breaches, 91% have seen attack attempts, and 94% consider testing AI systems a priority. Emerging attack vectors such as prompt injection, data‑poisoning, jailbreak techniques and token compression are exposing vulnerabilities that traditional firewalls cannot catch.

At the same time, the scale‑up of AI workloads is straining sustainability goals. Google’s 2026 Environmental Report shows that AI‑driven infrastructure raised its electricity consumption by 37% in 2025, CO₂ emissions by 18% and water use by 34% compared with the previous year, outpacing the company’s green initiatives. Similar pressures are reported for other large tech firms, highlighting a structural tension between AI growth and environmental targets.
