AI adoption grows among healthcare professionals for clinical information
A study published in JAMA reveals a significant surge in the use of artificial intelligence within the medical field. Between January 2024 and June 2026, over 950,000 healthcare professionals utilized the OpenEvidence clinical information platform, submitting a total of 271 million queries.
Data shows that physicians accounted for the majority of this activity, submitting 172.1 million questions. Rather than focusing solely on diagnostics, professionals primarily used the AI to research treatments, patient management, and medications. The platform allows users to ask questions in natural language and receive synthesized answers based on scientific publications and professional guidelines.
Usage grew rapidly during the study period, with monthly active users increasing from 355 in January 2024 to 703,265 by June 2026. Additionally, the average number of questions per active user rose from 18 to nearly 40 during the same timeframe.
