AI adoption grows in Asian cinema and television production

Media companies in Asia, particularly in China, India, and Indonesia, are increasingly adopting artificial intelligence to reduce production costs and accelerate content creation for the film and entertainment sectors. AI is being utilized for scriptwriting, character design, voiceovers, and video editing.

In China, the market for short-form AI-supported series for mobile devices is growing rapidly. Data indicates that by February 2026, there were approximately 127,800 AI-generated short series in circulation. In Indonesia, the series "Legenda Bertuah" represents the country's first television production created entirely with AI.

In India, media giant JioStar is developing productions where the entire process is managed by AI. A 100-episode series retelling the Mahabharata epic reached 6.5 million views on its first day. Despite these technological strides, viewers and critics have noted limitations, specifically regarding a lack of emotional depth in characters and technical issues such as inconsistent movement, irregular body proportions, and lip-syncing errors.
